ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne men’s tennis team defeated Hardin-Simmons University 5-4 to improve to 3-0 in American Southwest Conference West Division action.

The win was the first for the Yellow Jackets over Hardin-Simmons in over 10 years. Howard Payne is now on a four match win streak.

Down 1-2 after the doubles play, the Jackets posted wins in the #1 through #4 singles to secure the 5-4 win. Edward Martinez, Chris Sutton, Jeff Toyne, and Ross Sidman picked up the singles wins. Howard Payne nearly took another doubles point when the team of Chris Sutton and Raymond Borjas fell in a tie breaker 9-8 (6-2).
Howard Payne is now 6-8 overall and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play. HPU will play McMurry University at home on Friday, April 9th at the Nabors Tennis Center.
