NicholsRGraveside services for Roland H. Nichols will be Saturday April 3, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early Texas. Visitation will be Friday April 2, 2010 from 6 to 7:00 PM at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas.

Mr. Nichols passed away Wednesday at his home in Early, Texas.  He was born  August 17, 1928 to Vernon and Inez Deavers Nichols in Winchell, Texas.

Roland was married to Mary Nelms on May 23, 1949 in Brownwood, Texas, he worked for Santa Fe Railroad as a brakeman and a conductor for 41 years.  He served his country in the United States Air Force for a number of years.  Roland was a lifetime member of the Brownwood VFW and a member of the Cattlemen’s Association.  He was also a member of the Elks Club.

Roland is survived by his wife Mary Nelms Nichols of Early, Texas, three daughters Patsy and husband Bill Biggs of Temple, Texas, Paula Young and finance Jess Kennedy of Early, Texas, and Susan Nix of Whitney, Texas.  He is also survived by his two sons Larry and wife Kay Nichols of Mountain Home, Texas and Stephen Nichols and finance Jana Quick of Brownwood, Texas.  Roland is survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 Great-grandchildren, one brother Wayne Nichols of Brownwood and one sister Jean and husband Jim Perkins of Lake Brownwood, Tx.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Donna Lockett, his parents, one brother and two sisters.
