BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne men’s tennis team picked up two wins this weekend over Schreiner University and Sul Ross State to start conference play 2-0.

On Friday the Jackets were in Kerrville playing Schreiner University to open conference play. Howard Payne secured a 7-2 victory with dominate play at the top of the singles order.

Howard Payne only dropped the #1 doubles and #6 singles to Schreiner. The closes matchup of the day was in #5 singles when HPU’s Raymond Borjas defeating Schreiner’s Parker Wells in three sets 6-4, 7-5, 6-2.

On Saturday Howard Payne was back in Brownwood at the Nabors Tennis Center matchup against Sul Ross State. HPU easily defeated the Lobos 9-0. In the first event of the match #1 HPU doubles team of Ross Sidman and Edward Martinez defeated Sul Ross’ Tanar Ragan and Mike Quintero 9-7.
Jackets improve to 5-8 overall and 2-0 in conference play. HPU will play next on Tuesday against Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
