Brookshire’s store manager catches suspect attempting to shoplift jerky and later finds a package of Colgate Wisps in the thief’s pocket.

According to Brownwood Police reports, at approximately 3:22pm on Friday afternoon, police responded to a call regarding shoplifting at Brookshire’s.  The report stated that the store manager observed a man take a package of jerky and put it into his pocket.  The manager watched the suspect who attempted to leave the store without paying, walking past all possible points of payment as stated in the report.  Management, after detaining the suspect, also found a package of Colgate Wisps to be in the suspect’s pocket according to the report.  The report further stated that it appeared the man was also trying to steal the Colgate Wisps along with the jerky.

The report stated that the officer identified the 17-year-old, and while filling out a report, did not question him, but heard the suspect say, “I’m so stupid for trying to steal jerky.”  The report indicated that the manager wished to pursue charges against the teen.   Police issued the suspect a citation for Class C Theft and a criminal trespass warning according to the report.  Along with the suspect, three other people who accompanied him into the store were also issued criminal trespass warnings.  The total value of the items stolen was $6.28.  The two items were returned to management.
