hdjonesWard 2 Councilman H.D. Jones has notified the city that he intends to resign as Councilman at next week’s Brownwood City Council Meeting.   A city briefing sheet indicates that Jones has moved into a new home and is no longer a resident of Ward 2 which requires him to resign his position on the council.  City officials indicate that Jones’ new residence is located in Ward 1.  The vacancy will have to be filled with a special election in the coming months.

Current Ward 1 Councilman Darrell Haynes announced that he would not seek re-election for another term.  Steven McCrane is the only candidate to file for the race for the Ward 1 seat so far.

The city also announced that a new candidate has filed paperwork in the race for Mayor of Brownwood.  Resident Dennis Graham is now a candidate for Mayor according to city officials.  Local attorney Stephen Haynes previously announced his candidacy for Mayor last month.  Current Mayor Bert Massey has not officially stated if he would seek re-election to a new term.

Those interested in becoming candidates for Ward 1 or Ward 4 City Council seats or Mayor have until 5pm on Monday, March 8th to file.  City elections will be held on May 8th.

Current City Election Candidate Summary:
Council Ward 1

  • Steven McCrane

Council Ward 4

  • Draco Miller

Mayor

  • Stephen Haynes
  • Dennis Graham
