PattersonJerry Wayne Patterson, 72, of Brownwood Texas, formerly of Lake Jackson, Texas and El Dorado, Arkansas, joined his beloved Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 27th.  After suffering a major stroke, he received his wings while surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was born September 18, 1937, in El Dorado, Arkansas to Elton and Freda Patterson.  He was a devoted Husband, Father and Papa, truly living life for his family.  His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the true joys of his life, and if you don’t believe it, just ask anyone who knew him, he was not afraid to use his bragging rights.

Jerry’s devotion to his family was obvious, he coached Girls Softball, Little League, and Fun Football, and was like a dad to all the kids he coached.  There was never an activity that his children were involved in that he wasn’t front and center.    Everything in Jerry’s life revolved around his family.  He loved camping and was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a professional “picker.”  You knew that he loved you if he yanked your chain or called you “babe” or “pod’na.”

Jerry moved his family from El Dorado in 1964 to work for Dow Chemical before retiring in 1992.  He and Gen then moved from Lake Jackson back to El Dorado to be able to fish and hunt with his Dad and Brother and be closer to their parents.  In 2008 they resettled in Brownwood to be back closer to his kids.  Jerry could not have been happier than he was living on the ranch in Brownwood; he could see deer from his living room and gained another group of friends that he thought of as family.

Jerry was a member of Salt Creek Baptist Church of Brownwood and had been an active member of Gethesmane Baptist Church in El Dorado.

His Father Elton, his brother Harold and his precious baby boy Gary Allen preceded him in death. Left to carry on his wonderful memories is his loving Mother Freda “B” Burley Patterson and cherished wife, soul mate and best friend of 53 years, Virginia McGaugh Patterson.  He is also survived by his children, Connie and L.E. Fite of Brownwood, Cathy and Jason Campbell of Lake Jackson, and Rick Patterson of Houston.  His grandchildren Jodi and Mike Tatom, Amanda Kolb and Mike Pepper, Kymberly and Matt Pyeatt, Ronnie  and Crysta Salinas and Scott Fite.  He is also survived by his cherished great grand children Christian, Collin, Ryder, Blaine, Carson, Alex and Jeremiah.  He is also survived by everyone he met, “he never met a stranger” and ultimately left his mark on everyone who knew him.

Pallbearers will be L.E. Fite, Jason Campbell, Mike Tatom, Matt Pyeatt, Steve Patterson and Charles Patterson.  True Friend Tommy Barker will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.

The family will receive friends at Davis-Morris Funeral Home in Brownwood, Texas on Tuesday, March 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 3, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Mize.

On Friday, March 5th the family will be receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Bailey Funeral Home in El Dorado, Arkansas and funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 6, at 2:00 pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Old Parkers Chapel Cemetery in El Dorado

Online condolences may be left for the family by signing the guestbook at www.davismorrisfuneralhome.com
