Mares

Funeral mass for Gonzalo Mares, age 71, of Brownwood, will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, February 26, 2010 at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Serafin Avenido.  Burial will follow Greenleaf Cemetery.  The rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Mares died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 in San Angelo.

He was born on Sept. 1, 1938 in Villa Union, Coahuila, Mexico to Grabiel and Apolonia Celestino Mares.  He married Guadalupe Solis on September 20, 1954 in Villa Union.  Gonzalo worked as a laborer for Gore Brothers in Early for 26 years.  He was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Gonzalo is survived by his wife of 55 years, Guadalupe Mares of Brownwood, three sons, Rosendo Mares and wife Elva, Jaime Mares and wife Carolina, and Javier Mares and wife Martha; five daughters, Narcedalia Alvizo, Rosa Maria Avila and husband Jesus, Dora Alicia Garcia, Rosa Aurora Martinez, and Enedelia Rivera; 22 grandchildren, Oscar Herrerra and wife Angeles, Rosendo Mares, Jr. and wife Veronica, Daniel Constancio and wife Lorena, Jesse Mares, Christy Mares, Leticia Mares, Brodie Byrd and wife Stacy, Jaime Mares, Jr. and wife Ana, Natalie Mares, Patricia Mares, Manuel Mares, Javier Mares, Jr., Fernando Alvizo and wife Cynthia, Virgil Alvizo, Mercedes Salazar, Mystica Avila, Vidal Avila, Jose Mares, Rosa Martinez, Michael Garcia, Erica Garcia, Samantha Avila, Jose Luis Avila, Ruby Avila, and Angel Grabiel Rivera, and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents, two sisters, Gloria Mares and Tomasa Fuentes, and a brother Repoldo Mares.
