VOTEBrown County voters have come out in good numbers for the early voting period that started this week.  According to the Brown County Elections Office, the majority of voters so far are casting their ballots in the Republican primary.

The Elections Office said that a total of 620 votes have been cast during this first week of early voting with 571 going to the Republican Primary and 49 in the Democratic Primary.  That means that over 90% of those who have cast their vote so far did so in the Republican Primary.

With heated races for governor and local judge seats, such Republican numbers shouldn’t come as a surprise.  One of the most heated races for county Republicans is the run for Brown County Judge which includes incumbent Ray West and challengers Lewis Lehman and Joe Cooksey.  The Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace race has also been a bit heated between incumbent Bryan Thompson and challengers Mike Barr and David Gray. None of the candidates for county offices in the Democratic Primary have opponents.

Elections office staff expressed that turn out has been good and they hope more voters will continue to come to the polls during the early voting period while lines are short.  Early voting began on Tuesday, February 16th and will continue through Feb 26th.  Primary Election Day is March 2nd.
