commissionercourtarticlepicTuesday, the Brown County Commissioners Court held a special meeting with three agenda items up for discussion and possible action.

The first item on the agenda was approval of temporary employees for the Elections Administration Office.  Commissioners briefly discussed and then unanimously approved for Marie Bowman and Debra Breed to work as voter registration workers.  The two were hired to work during the February 1-March 12 period of voting in order to enable the two ladies to work during the election period and into a period which could possibly extend if there is a runoff.

Larry Nix addressed the Commissioners regarding a bid from Joe Sotello for repairing the Old Jail Museum roof.  The repairs were discussed, which included anchoring the 4 downspouts, rebuilding the roof under-structure, patching wall plaster and paint, reinforcing supports on the second floor, building a special “tiny roof” that will help divert water in a sagging area of the roof, which has caused some support beams to rot, repair of those support beams and adding a vent to the cell area.  These repairs are necessary and will “enhance previous roofing performed recently.”

The total of the bid was $17,500.  After a brief discussion, the court asked staff from the county auditor’s office if the amount was covered in the budget.  The amount of money available was $17,000.  Sotello agreed to lower the contract amount to $17,000 and do all the work noted.  Due to the current proposed contract wording having a start date of February 1, 2010, the start and end dates of the proposed contract were extended 60 days.  This item was unanimously approved.  Work will begin on March 1, 2010 and end on or before 7/30/10.

The final item on the agenda was approval of a tax resale deed to Calvin Wright for lots 4 & 5 of Block 3 in the Bailey Addition.  Brown County Appraisal District recommended that the court approve and sign the deed.  The proposed sale price of the property was $750/lot for a total of $1400.  The amount owed on both lots for delinquent taxes is $3800.  It was noted by Commissioner Gist that although this did not clear the amount owed; this would get the property “back on the rolls.”
