jaxonshipleyBrownwood Lions Wide Receiver Jaxon Shipley was the first recruit to make a commitment to become a Texas Longhorn for the 2011 season which was made official on Friday during a meeting with UT coach Mack Brown.  It is no surprise that the younger brother of Longhorn star receiver Jordan Shipley had intentions to follow in his brother’s footsteps and play for the Longhorns.

Jaxon Shipley is currently a junior at Brownwood High School and helped lead the Brownwood Lions to 10-3 record and winning district 2-3A, bi-district, and area championship titles for 2009.  Shipley had 934 receiving yards and nine touchdowns despite missing the first five games of the season with an injury.  He has been honored with several awards and recognitions for the 2009 season, most recently that of first team selection by the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State football teams.

The Brownwood Lions will play the 2010 football season in the newly minted District 5-3A recently announced during the UIL realignment.   With the Lions having Shipley for his senior year, it will help in the team’s quest for another state title.

In addition to Shipley, UT has received commitments from Belton quarterback David Ash, Mesquite running back Joe Bergeron, Arlington receiver Miles Onyegbule, Cedar Park LB Chet Moss, and Lake Travis OL Taylor Doyle during their first Junior Day which kicks off the Longhorns’ 2011 recuituing season.
