CharlesHorne001Charles Clement Horne went home to be with Jesus, January 30, 2010. He was born March 10, 1931 in Wichita, Kansas to Thelma Conway and Vaughn Kessler. He attended Plainview School in Griggs, Oklahaoma. Charles began the service in the Army in 1952 and served his country during the Korean conflict. He married Mary Rosalind McFarland in Lovington, NM, on July 15, 1952, and in 1954 he went to work for El Paso Natural Gas Company where he retired at the end of 34 years of service.

Charles is preceded in death by his mother and father; four sisters; and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife Mary; son and daughter in law Cavin and Vickie Horne; daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Doug Kelly; six grandchildren, Charlie Kelly, Amanda Gentry, Corey Whisman, Tyson Whisman, Mark Horne, and Alyssa Horne; and six great grandchildren, Cutter Gentry, Kylee Smith, Adalyn Whisman, Trystin Plumley, Alexis Horne, and Peyton Ybarra. He is also survived by six brothers and their spouses, Olin and Elizabeth Horne, Wayne and Clarkie Brown, Winston Brown, Ronald and Shirley Brown, Donald Brown, and Deanie and Patty Brown; three sisters and spouses, Grace Pruitt, LaVelle Haggard, Edwina Joyce and Berry Cooper; and an aunt Vera Harriman.

Charles was an active member of Central united Methodist Church, the American Legion, and the VFW. He was always quick to respond with an “I’ll help you” to anyone who needed it, whether it was jack-hammering cement, pouring cement, painting, welding, or anything else. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and doting “Papa”. He was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him and a void is left in many lives.

Funeral Services for Charles Horne will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday February 2, 2010 at the Davis Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gary Torian officiating, interment to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Davis Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
