Lady Cubs Win Tournament

middleschoolwinThe 7B Lady Cubs won first place in the Brownwood Middle School 7B Basketball Tournament held Dec. 11-12.  Teams participating were San Angelo Glenn, Abilene Craig, Abilene Wylie, Abilene Clack, San Angelo Lincoln, Brownwood Middle School, Abilene Madison, and San Angelo Lee.

The Lady Cubs’ first opponent was San Angelo Lee, who they defeated 22-17. Their second game was against a very tall and strong San Angelo Lincoln team, which the Lady Cubs narrowly beat 33-27. With that win, they advanced into the championship game against another tall and strong team, San Angelo Glenn.  The Lady Cubs dominated with their defense and scored on Glenn’s turnovers. The Lady Cubs took first place with a score of 28-16.

During all three games, the Lady Cubs demonstrated great teamwork and sportsmanship.  “Each player contributed to team’s success with their heart and determination,” said Coach Kim Harvey. “I am so proud of their accomplishment.”

High scorer for the Lady Cubs in the tournament was Alexis Gonzales with 22 points.  Top scorers were: Jordan Griffin (21 pts); Sarah Hernandez (20 pts); Cassidy Schmidt (7 pts); Emma Mullins and Lorena Lopez (4 pts each). Top rebounder of the tournament was Jordan Griffin with 33 rebounds.  Defensive player of the tournament was Sarah Hernandez with 13 steals.  Lorena Lopez was the top blocker with 3 blocks.  Team managers are Alexa Cervera and Taran Cardenas.

Winning second place in the tournament was San Angelo Glenn and third place was San Angelo Lincoln.
