The Howard Payne Lady Jacket basketball team used a 19-5 run to start the second half to defeat the Lady Lobos of Sul Ross State University 65-51 in American Southwest Conference action Tuesday afternoon. 

The Lady Jackets won the rebounding battle 47-32 and the bench outscored Sul Ross State 32-16 in the game. 

Sul Ross State stayed close and was only down 4, 42-38 with 16:09 left in the game. Howard Payne started a 15-0 run to open up the game. 

Roshonda Gayden was one of two HPU players with a double double, a game high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Hope Hohertz followed with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Liz Pereyra led Sul Ross with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Shaquana Wall added 10. 

Howard Payne improves to 10-2 overall and 6-2 in ASC action. Sul Ross State falls to 1-11, 1-7 in ASC play. 

Howard Payne will play at home on Thursday against the University of Texas at Tyler. It will be a 3:00 pm start time.
