The Brown County Commissioners Court met on Monday morning in their regular scheduled meeting.

Richard Gist, Precinct #3, discussed an application by Verizon to install a utility line located at CR 287.  This was referring to replacement of an existing line needing replacement.  This application was approved.

Ray West invited Keith Madole, Chairman of the Board for the Ark Domestic Violence Shelter to speak regarding the Texas Emergency Shelter Grants Program.  Madole pointed out that this is a grant that the Ark applies for each year.  It originates at the Federal level and is dispersed at the state level.  Nina Cox asked if the county had reached the $500,000 level for sponsoring grants that would put the county in a mandatory audit level.  This amount has not been reached, so the commissioners approved signing and sponsoring the application for the grant.

Larry Traweek, Precinct #4, discussed an application for Brookesmith water to make a cut in CR 464 in order to install a private water line, which was also approved.

Steve Adams, Precinct #1, spoke about the Commissioners scheduled visit (after today’s meeting) of a flood control dam site located about a mile outside of Cross Cut.  More information and pictures will be obtained next week when the press is invited to view the dam.  This project is also a result of grant money received.  All four precincts have been involved with this flood control project.

Brent Bush then gave a report about 5 consoles being installed in the coming weeks.  Next week technicians will come to do preparation work for their installation.  This project is a part of Homeland Security measures.

Amy Hamrick reported on a new prescription program that is being looked into to help save the county money.  If coordination with the jail can happen, it may save the county quite a bit of money.

It was also reported that Brownwood being designated as a Storm Ready Community by the National Weather Service is looking promising for January 2010.
