BrianWade_runningstoryOur friend Brian Wade, KOXE radio’s news reporter,  recently completed the JFK 50-mile run in Maryland.  A recent issue of the Abilene Reporter News ran a great article of Brian’s experience.  Here is an excerpt:

If you ask Brian Wade why he runs marathons, he’ll say it is just because he can.

And, last weekend he proved he could when he realized a dream — to run the JFK 50 Mile — an annual 50-mile run set in the rough terrain in Washington County, Maryland.

Wade, of Early, started running several years ago. It started with an evening jog and then he began running marathons. To date, he has completed two half-marathons (13.1 miles), four marathons (26.2 miles) two 50K’s (31.1 miles) and the JFK 50 Mile.

“After each distance I thought ‘there is no way I could go farther than that’ and each time I’ve been surprised by the fact that indeed I could,” Wade said.

Just getting into the JFK 50 is difficult, because only 1,000 runners a year are accepted.

Plus, the marathon is different because of the distance and the terrain, which consisted of paved road, the Appalachian Trail and the Chesapeake and Ohio towpath along the Potomac River.

Congratulations to Brian Wade for this great accomplishment.
