Driscoll001Funeral service for Ruth Driscoll, age 97, of Brownwood, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, November 27, 2009 in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Leslie officiating.  Interment will follow at 3:00 PM in the Shannon-Rose Hills Memorial Park in Fort Worth.  The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Driscoll died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in Brownwood.

Ruth was born on September 12, 1921 in Tarrant County to Sam and Lelia Gillard.

She was a hard worker and held many jobs, from working at soda fountains, drug stores, and owned and ran her own restaurant in Grapevine from 1944-1956.  She married Dan Fielder in 1932.  They had two sons, Harry and Bill.  She married Jack Driscoll on December 1, 1957.  He was a Merchant Marine and she went up and down the Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi coasts to meet him when his ship would come in.  They moved to La Marque in 1963.  She began collecting plates and had over 900 at one time.

She also loved to do ceramics and made and painted many beautiful items.  She worked in the lunch room at La Marque ISD for a number of years.  She loved and spoiled her six grandchildren.  She and Jack loved to grow beautiful flowers and had a very pretty yard.  They were passionate about their four Dachshunds they had over the years, even taking the last one to Temple in 1998 when they moved to Temple to their first assisted living.  In 2000 they moved to Brownwood.  She had been a resident at Redstone Park and Oak Ridge Manor.

Ruth is survived by her two sons, Bill Fielder and wife Darlene of Brownwood and Harry Fielder and wife Jean of Duncanville; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Driscoll, her parents, three brothers, Sam, Paul, and Jim Gillard, a sister, Bessie Aldridge, and a grandson, Wayne Fielder.

The family requests that memorials be made to Cherokee Home for Children, PO Box 295, Cherokee, TX, 76832.

Condolences, memories, and tributes can be left for the family at www.mem.com
