CARRCity and Rural Rides is gearing up for their new program to help make transportation easier for some in the area.

The Job Access Reverse Commute program, (JARC) is funded by the Texas Department of Transportation.  JARC was established to address the unique transportation challenges faced by welfare recipients and low-income person seeking to secure and maintain employment.  As with many entry-level jobs located in the city, low-income and or welfare recipients find it difficult to access these jobs on a daily basis.

The Central Texas Rural Transit District along with project partners will utilize JARC funds to provide an affordable and reliable transportation service to and from work and/or for training.  The new program is being called “Ride to Success.”

JARC Coordinator Adel Hunter said that CARR was awarded $1.2 million grant for the program and is getting 4 new 21-passenger buses and 3 new 25-passenger ARBOC buses in Brown County.  The ARBOC buses can raise and lower for easy access without the use of a ramp.  CARR was also able to hire 5 new drivers.

The program will begin on December 7th and run through June 30th, 2010. For more information or to sign up for the program, call 1-800-710-2277.
