Pearl Wagnon, age 92, of Early passed away Thursday, November 19, 2009 in Brownwood. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:30pm Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the Early First Baptist Church, Eddy Ailshie officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, from 4:30-6:30pm.
She was a beloved wife, mother and friend and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Pearl was born to Oscar and Vesta Howell on December 24, 1916 in Grosvenor, Texas. She graduated from Williams High School as Valedictorian of her class and then with Honors from Draughn’s School of business in Abilene, Texas. Pearl married Burl Bates Wagnon, her high school sweetheart, on July 22, 1938 in Brown County, Texas. They enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage before he went home to be with the Lord in 1995.
Wherever God led them throughout their years together, they enjoyed serving others through church, school and community activities. Serving others was a very important part of their lives. Like many other patriotic Americans, they served their country as Sky Watchers during World War II. They viewed their church, Good Samaritan Ministries and Lions’ Club as avenues for helping others. Pearl and Bates were faithful stewards of all that God gave them.
A devout Christian , Pearl was a long-time member of Early First Baptist Church. Outgoing and cheerful, she loved people and was always able to find the humor in situations. Pearl loved life, loved to laugh and loved to serve her Lord and others. To those who knew her best, she was an amazing woman whom God gifted with an unending capacity for sacrificial love, unwavering dedication to her family and incredible strength. She and Bates lived life with great love and thanksgiving. Pearl was diligent in educating her children in Christian discipline and stewardship simply through the way she lived her life every day. Always putting the needs of her family above her own, surely, a more wonderful example of a devoted and selfless Mother cannot be found.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are three daughters, Barbara Huey and husband Bill of Kaufman, Texas, Judy Bieroth and husband Jim of Carrollton, Texas, and Wanda Beaver also of Carrollton, Texas; six grandchildren, Bill Huey Jr. and wife Chris of Grants, New Mexico, Jan Touchberry and husband John of McKinney, Texas, Jennifer O’Steen and husband Lanny of Grapevine, Texas, Jodi Averitte and husband Brad of Azle, Texas, Robyn Beaver of Austin, Texas, and Dustin Beaver of Carrollton, Texas; 15 great grandchildren; and 4 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother, Vernon Howell.
