Two people were arrested on Monday and charged with three counts of child abandonment or endangerment.

Kimberly Baker, 23, and Kalen Lee Strickland, 31, both of Brownwood were taken to Brown County Jail after police allegedly found three children left unattended.

Brownwood Police reports state that shortly after 11am on Monday, a woman reported to police that she almost backed over two young children walking on the sidewalk in the 1200 block of 3rd street.  The woman got out of her vehicle and spoke to the 3-year-old and almost 1-year-old children to attempt to locate their guardian as she did not see any other adults nearby.

Reports say that the older child directed the woman to a house at the other end of the block.  The woman could not get anyone to come to the door so she opened the door and noticed another small child lying in the floor on top of a couch cushion.   The woman immediately contacted police after no one answered her inside the residence.

When Brownwood Police arrived, they found Baker and Strickland sleeping in the bedroom according to police reports.  When police woke them up, they said that they were not aware that the children were awake.

The police report also states that CPS was contacted to check on the welfare of the children and their living conditions which was a concern to police

The children were given to a relative as the suspects were taken into custody.
