IMG_1895The Good Samaritan’s “Empty Bowls” event was held on Friday, November 6, at the Brownwood Depot and Cultural Center with great soup offered for a good cause.

“Empty Bowls” was held to raise money and awareness for hunger needs in the community. Ninety percent of the proceeds from the day will be given to hunger needs in Brownwood, with the remaining ten percent being donated to Heifer International.

The “empty bowls” were made by local artists, HPU students and others in the community. Attendees were encouraged to keep their bowl as a reminder of the hunger issues around the world.  Over 300 bowls were available for participants to choose from.

Participating restaurants and catering businesses that provided soup were Sodexho Food Services, Section Hand Steak House, Texas 4 H Center, Runaway Train Café, Chick-fil-A, Steve’s Market and Deli and Prima Pasta.

Between 80 and 90 Howard Payne students teamed up with Good Samaritan Ministries to make this event possible.  Some great live music helped to top off the event.

This was the first “Empty Bowls” event held in Brownwood.  Empty Bowls is a grassroots project of The Imagine/Render Group, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to positive and lasting social change through the arts, education, and projects that build community.
