IMG_8603Woodland Heights Elementary is holding their annual canned-food drive today and students are very enthusiastic about the cause.

In conjunction with this event, Woodland Heights is also honoring “Maggie Lee for Good Day” on behalf of a former student of the school.

Maggie Lee Henson was a student at Woodland Heights Elementary for her kindergarten and part of her first grade year before her family moved away. Even though her time in the district was short, Maggie Lee was still part of the Woodland Heights family. The school was deeply saddened to learn of Maggie Lee’s death this summer following a tragic bus accident.

Maggie Lee would have turned 13 years old today and on this one single day, more than 17,000 people through Facebook and word of mouth have committed to performing one act of kindness.

In honor of “Maggie Lee for Good Day” the community was invited to fulfill their one good deed for the day by donating canned goods at Woodland Heights Elementary in their canned-food drive to benefit Good Samaritan Ministries in Brownwood.

Although the weather was rainy, it did not dampen the spirits of the children helping to receive canned goods in front of the school Thursday morning.  They excitedly held up their signs and helped donors unload their goods.

Those who could not donate canned goods to Woodland Heights this morning are still encouraged to do one good deed today in honor of Maggie Lee Henson to help brighten and strengthen the community.
