HPUlogoA historic win as the Howard Payne women’s soccer team records their largest margin of victory in program history with a skunking of McMurry University, 8-0 at Citizens National Bank field.

The 8-0 win positions Howard Payne in the six spot for the ASC tournament.

Leslie Jones also got her second hat trick of the season, tying a HPU record for hat tricks in a season.

Only two minutes into the game, the Lady Jackets scored twice, the first from Leslie Jones, and the second from Shannon Costello, the goal from Shannon was her first collegiate goal.

Six minutes later, Leslie Jones tallied her second goal on a deflection off another HPU player’s shot attempt, making the score 3-0.

Before the half the Lady jackets were able to tag on two other goals to take the decisive 5-0 lead at the half. The forth coming from Alyssa Biere and the fifth from Allison Harp off of a free kick, both goals being the girls first goals of the season.

Forty seconds into the second half, Allison Gudmundson was tripped up in the box, giving her a penalty kick which she was successful on. That goal was her first of the season as well.

In the 81st minute, Amanda Jenkins was assisted by Karla Kalantar to score the seventh goal in the game.

With three minutes in the game, Leslie Jones completed her hat trick with another assist from Karla Kalantar.

The Lady Jackets outshot the McMurry 21 to 4, 13 of which were shots on goal, to McM’s 2.

Kaitlyn Kelm kept a clean sheet recording 2 saves on the day.
