On Wednesday, Sheriff’s Deputy Kelly Marsh and Pete Bastardo were dispatched to Hwy 279 on a report of a suspicious male walking in the road.

Deputies arrived at the location to find a man laying in the bar ditch next to a pickup truck.  According to Sheriff reports, the man identified as James Wilson was passed out holding something in his hand.  Upon closer inspection, Deputy Marsh saw a handgun in Wilson’s hand with the barrel pointed at his head as he was unconscious on the ground according to reports.

The report also states that deputies ordered Wilson to put down the weapon, and when he woke up, raised his hands and was put in retraints.  According to reports, Wilson admitted to having been drinking and was very upset due to recent family issues.  Deputes noted that the confiscated gun had been loaded and cocked while in Wilson’s hand.

Wilson was arrested for public intoxication and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

In unrelated cases:

–Deputy Stroope arrested Charles Lacy Castillo of Brownwood on Tuesday for a warrant for theft by check out of Shackelford County.  Castillo was stopped for speeding when deputy Stroope was advised of the outstanding warrant.

–Sheriff Deputies responded to a call regarding an assault with injury off of Brown County Road 569.
