Brown County Sheriff Deputy Benson was dispatched to Hwy 279 on Friday with a report of a vehicle swerving on the road.

A report states that Benson intercepted the vehicle, followed it and observed the vehicle weaving back and forth and swerve into the oncoming traffic lane.

Benson initiated a traffic stop and made contact with 50-year-old Deaun Long Dalton of Coleman.  The report states that due to the deputy detecting the smell of alcohol on Dalton along with her slurred speech and erratic driving, he performed field sobriety tasks which Dalton had difficulty performing.

Dispatch advised deputy Benson that Dalton had two prior DWI convictions.  The suspect was handcuffed and placed in the deputy’s patrol car.

Upon conducting an inventory of Dalton’s vehicle, officers discovered two loose pills later identified as “Soma.”

Dalton was charged with DWI 3rd or more & possession of a dangerous drug.  She also had an outstanding warrant out of Gillespie County for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

In an unrelated case:

-Deputy David Varner was dispatched on Friday to assist Brown County Constables David Hefner and CT Ham in serving warrants for a person wanted out of Lubbock County.

The officers proceeded to Wallace trailer park and found a male subject in the location that the suspect was reported to be.

A report states that the deputy asked the man for some identification and was handed a non-photo ID by the name of Roy Neal & the man stated that was his name.

Suspicious, the officers requested that the Constable in Lubbock County send photos of the suspect to them.  The Deputy informed the man that they were going to have photos delivered to their location shortly. The report says that the man, identified as 34-year-old Paul Dean Harrison of Early, looked shocked and then stated that he was the person they were looking for.

Harrison was arrested for outstanding warrants for retaliation, Assault Family Violence, Aggravated Assault, and DWI 3rd or more.  A charge of failure to ID a Fugitive was added to the charges.  He was transported to Brown County Jail and is being held on bonds totalling $56,500.
