Residents living near the south side of 4th street are excited to be able to drive through their neighborhood without driving around barricades.

The south end of 4th Street that connects to Indian Creek Drive has been under construction as a result of the city’s water line project over the last few months.  On Thursday, city crews removed the barricades after finishing most of the resurfacing part of the project.

The road had been expected to be open and competed before now, but there were a few minor setbacks.

Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree said a few weeks ago that the city had been waiting for the gas company to complete the replacement of gas lines in the area & that was one of the hold ups.  Once the gas company competed their work, the city workers started work on the road resurfacing.

Residents can now access the Woodland Heights area directly through 4th Street without taking detours.
