IMG_9395Many residents took time out this morning to honor and remember the events that took place September 11th, 2001.

The Woodmen of the World sponsored an event called “In Honor and Remembrance” to commemorate this Patriot’s day.  The original location was to be at Depot Plaza, but due to the rainy weather, organizers moved it to the VFW building.

The event opened with a prayer by Pastor Ken Smith and singing of the National Anthem by Jason Studdard.

Cheryl Campbell then recited a poem to honor those lost on 9/11 titled “Two Thousand One, Nine Eleven” by an unknown author.

Guest speaker was Jim Looby who spoke about remembering those heroes of 9/11 who didn’t know they were going to be heroes that day.  He also spoke about remembering those who have been lost in the military protecting freedom’s of Americans.  Referring to the remembrance of those fallen, Looby said, “If that does not break your heart, then you have a heart of stone.”

The event ended with a presentation ceremony to the Brownwood Firefighters who attended the event.

See photos and a short video clip below of Cheryl Campbell’s poem recital and clips from Jim Looby’s speech.
