IMG_5415aAt 11:00 a.m. September 8, 2009, President Barack Obama will deliver a national address to the students of America.  During this special address, the president will speak directly to the nation’s children and youth about persisting and succeeding in school. The president will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning.

Brownwood ISD Superintendent Reece Blincoe said today that the district has a procedure in place for the President’s speech to students.  BISD administration officials including Blincoe will watch the speech live & record it before students see it.  If the administration deems the content of the speech is free of politics and is uplifting and encrouaging to students, they will make the recording of the speech available to students for viewing.  It will be up  to the individual teachers and principals if they wish their students to watch the speech.

Blincoe also said that if all of the schools and classes in the district watched the internet broadcast live, it would be a drain on internet resources of the schools which they were concerned about.

The U.S. Department of Education’s website says that it invites students of all ages, teachers, and administrators to participate in this historic moment by watching the president deliver the address, which will be broadcast live on the White House Web site
