articleroofcollaspe2As this morning’s Brownwood City Council meeting was winding down, City Manager Bobby Rountree commented on the recent roof collapse of the old Southwest Appliance building located at 100 Center Ave in Downtown Brownwood.  Rountree said that demolition of the entire building was scheduled to begin tomorrow by the owner, but new information quickly changed that situation.

After Mr. Rountree commented on the building status, City Engineer Don Hatcher said that he received an email this morning stating that the building had been sold and the new owner intended to preserve the building in some way.  Hatcher declined to comment on the identity of the new purchaser of the building.

A relative of the current owner confirmed that they were working on a deal to sell the building.  He stated that he was unsure of details of the deal or the identity of the buyer, and that the current owner of the building was out of town.

Ross Setzler, Broker/Owner of Prudential Ross Real Estate stated today that he was currently representing a buyer interested in buying the downtown building.  According to Setzler, the parties are currently negotiating terms of a deal, but no sales contract had been signed as of Tuesday evening.  Setzler commented that the prospective buyer does not wish to be identified at this time.
