Brownwood’s Director of Utilities, David Harris said that the city is wrapping up the water & sewer line replacement phase of the project either this Friday or Monday at the latest.  Harris said,”We are waiting for the gas company to do their part.”  Harris explained that since the streets are about to be redone, the gas company uses this opportunity to replace gas lines as needed so they do not have to pay to patch the roads later.  Once the gas lines are replaced, the city can begin resurfacing the streets and open the blocked sections.

Harris said that he expects the gas lines to take about a week to replace, and then another two to three weeks to resurface the roads.  He said it should be ready in time for back to school depending on weather.  Harris encouraged citizens to use side streets and not to cut though constructions zones for safety issues.  The south part of 2nd street was recently finished and can give residents an idea of what the roads will look like when construction is complete.
