commissionercourtarticlepicBrown County Commissioners Court met this morning to discuss a few topics before digging into their 09/10 Budget Workshop.

Commissioner for Precinct 2 Joel Kelton proposed the consideration of a burn ban due to lack of rain and high heat recently.  Commissioners discussed that the fire chief stated that currently everyone is using common sense and there have been no real problems.  Commissioners agreed to put a burn ban consideration on next meetings agenda and monitor the county rainfall in the next week.

Commissioners then discussed the renewal for the county’s health insurance coverage.  County Judge Ray West explained that although policy rates are going to increase starting Oct 1st, the county will get a $185,590 renewal credit from the insurance company.  This credit will be prorated per month and credited to each month’s premium which will give the county a net savings for the next fiscal year.

The commissioner’s then entered their budget workshop session which will go for the remainder of the day and part of Tuesday.  Each county department will present their requested budget and discuss these items with commissioners.  The county will then put together their proposed budget for fiscal year 2009/2010 which will begin on Oct 1, 2009.
