2009StickHorseRodeoArticlepic The first ever Stick Horse Rodeo, sponsored by Good Samaritan Ministries, was held in downtown Brownwood after this morning’s annual Brown County Rodeo Parade.  The Stick Horse Rodeo was for children ages 4-11.  Corporate Pardners helped provide each contestant with a stick horse, a cowboy hat, a bandanna & participants received a ribbon or award for participation.

There were 6 events divided by age group.  They included barrel races, flag races, bronc bustin’, boot scramble, calf roping & pig penning.  Afterwards kids got to take their horse & outfit home as a thank you for participating in the event.

Vendors were set up along Center Avenue today along with the event and Good Samaritan Ministries Director Angela Bostick said that 10% of profits made by the vendors will go to Good Samaritans.

Volunteers and Board Members from Good Samaritan Ministries said today that over 60 kids were preregistered and many more registered on site this morning bringing the number of kids to over 100 who participated.  “This was really a better turn out than we initially expected,” one volunteer stated. Ms. Bostick had said that this is good exposure for Good Samaritan Ministries, but come Monday, it is back to helping families in need.
