AUSTIN – The Brownwood Lady Lions 4×200 relay placed third, and Grace Sparks came in seventh in the pole vault Saturday before rainy conditions, a damp track, and the impending District 6-4A meet led to an early departure from the 98th Clyde Littlefield Relays on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

The 4×200 relay of Icess Hall, Jade Morin, Aniah Hines and Kaya Phillips finished third overall in the Division I High School Girls finals Saturday with a time of 1:42.48. The foursome trailed Madisonville (1:41.31) and Dallas Lincoln (1:42.06), both fellow Class 4A schools, who flip-flopped from the preliminaries.

On Friday, the Lady Lions 4×200 ran a 1:39.89 to qualify for the finals behind only Dallas Lincoln (1:39.34) and Madisonville (1:39.65).

Also Saturday, Grace Sparks placed seven out of 17 competitors in the High School Girls pole vault Saturday morning, clearing 11-8.5. On Friday Sparks (13.59) placed 20th out of 32 competitors in the Division I High School Girls 100-meter hurdles.

Earlier Saturday, the reigning Class 4A state champion Lady Lions 4×100 relay of Hall, Phillips, Morin and Hines were clocked with the fifth-best time of 47.82 in the preliminaries to advance to the finals. However, instead of risking potential injury in less than ideal weather conditions, Lipsey opted for neither the 4×100 or 4×400 relay to compete in the afternoon finals with district competition coming up next week.

The 4×100, in prelims action Saturday morning, trailed Madisonville (47.52), Dallas Lincoln (47.54), Bellaire Episcopal (47.6) and Addison Greenhill (47.67).

On Friday, the 4×400 relay of Rebekkah Delgado, Grace Sparks, Phillips, and Morin ran a time of 3:59.43, which ranked sixth, to qualify for the finals.

Also Friday, Hannah Deen (5-1.75) came in 18th place out of 27 high jump entrants among Division I High School Girls.

The entire Lady Lions and Lions rosters will be back in action Wednesday and Thursday at the District 6-4A meet in Graham.
