Ernest W. (Bubba) Kimbro was born to Y.W. and Virginia Hollan Kimbro on January 23, 1938 at a home in central Texas near the Williamson County/Milam County line. He was the oldest of four boys. His family moved multiple times in his early life. Bubba entered the 1st grade at Annie Purl Elementary School in Georgetown, Texas and graduated from Georgetown High School in 1956.
Bubba married his high school sweetheart, Deanna Doerfler on May 4, 1957. They were blessed with three children – Susan Kay, John Jay and Darla Gay.
Bubba graduated from Southwest Texas State University in January 1960 and began his career teaching and coaching at Kyle High School. He was the science teacher and the coach for football, basketball and track through the 1966 school year. Following his successful coaching career, Bubba became the principal at Kyle Elementary School where he served through the spring of 1985. After this, Bubba worked in the real estate business for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his infant brother, John Wayne Kimbro, his brother, Tommie Gene Kimbro, his nephew, Dean Whitaker, and infant great granddaughter, Brayleigh Jane Free.
Bubba is survived by his wife, Deanna Kimbro, and his children and their spouses – Susan (Mike) Sides, John (Cary) Kimbro and Darla (John) Free. His surviving grandchildren are Kourtney (Jesse) Fullilove, Kara (Aaron) Farmer, Kyle (Jo) Kimbro, Ryan (Emily) Kimbro, Lindie (Zack) Ramsey, Caleb (Kelly Jo) Kimbro, Kristen (Joe) Harding, John (Jessica) Free, Samuel (Alexandra) Free, and Rylee Free. He was also blessed with 24 great grandchildren.
He is further survived by his brother, James Robert Kimbro, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ann (Donnie) Whiteaker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family members and friends.
The Celebration of Life for Ernest Kimbro will be on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 1pm, at First Baptist Church of Goldthwaite, Texas. A dessert/coffee reception will follow from 2:15-4:30 pm at the Goldthwaite Civic Center, 1807 Cline Street, Goldthwaite, TX.
