
Kenneth Dale Whitley, 77, of Brownwood, Texas, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Kenneth was born on May 15, 1948, in Brownwood, Texas, to Ira and Cloma Whitley.
Kenneth graduated from Brownwood High School in 1969, where he was a proud member of the 1969 Brownwood Lions State Championship football team under the leadership of legendary coach Gordon Wood. He remained a devoted Brownwood Lions fan throughout his life, always cheering on his hometown team with pride.
Following graduation, Kenneth honorably enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country with dedication. On July 24, 1977, he married the love of his life, Judy Whitlock. Together they built a life centered on love and family and welcomed two sons, Robert and Joshua.
Kenneth devoted many years of service to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at the Havens Unit, where he worked faithfully until his retirement. In addition to his career, Kenneth was well known throughout the community as “Mr. Firework,” proudly operating the Mr. W Fireworks stand for 37 years. His passion for fireworks brought joy to countless families and became a treasured Brownwood tradition.
After retirement, Kenneth continued serving his community as a greeter at Walmart. He was known for his warm smile, outgoing personality, and genuine love for people. He never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcome.
Kenneth had a special love for Christmas. Each year, he and Judy transformed their home into a magical display, often having the best-decorated house on the block. More than anything, Kenneth loved his family. He was incredibly proud of his grandson, Hunter Whitley, and was overjoyed to welcome his great-granddaughter, Halle Whitley, in the last year of his life.
After the passing of his first wife, Judy, Kenneth found love again and married Jan Wade on October 20, 2025. They shared a special companionship in his final chapter.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Jan Wade of Brownwood, Texas; his son, Robert Whitley of Brownwood, Texas; his grandson, Hunter Whitley and Erika of Brownwood, Texas; his great-granddaughter, Halle Whitley; his daughter-in-law, Nicole Woody of Brookesmith, Texas; his sister, Linda Nesmith of Little Rock, Arkansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Whitley; his son, Joshua Lee Whitley; his parents, Ira and Cloma Whitley; and his sister, Nancy Jones.
Kenneth will be remembered for his friendly spirit, his love of his community, his dedication to his country, and his deep love for his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:00pm at Blaylock Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 2:00pm in the Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood. Interment will be private.
