Lady Horns knock off host Bangs, San Saba to open tournament

BANGS – The Early Lady Horns notched victories in their first two games at the Bangs tournament Thursday.

Playing the host Bangs Lady Dragons for the second time in three days, Early opened tournament action with a 46-14 victory Thursday morning. The Lady Horns followed that with a 46-34 win over San Saba in the afternoon.

Against Bangs, the Lady Horns led 10-4 after one quarter, 18-6 at halftime, and 36-12 through three periods.

Andie Simpson scored a game-high 17 points for Early trailed by 12 from Avery Williams, eight from Aliyah Harlan, three from Gabby Benson, and two points each from Hallie Thornberry, Cali Vargas, and Abby Ferguson.

For Bangs, Justice Baker, Adalynne Stephens and Keeli Gordon each scored four points and Jasmine Lewis tacked on two points.

In the win over San Saba, Early jumped out in front 16-9 after one quarter, led 25-16 and halftime, and carried a 33-20 lead into the final stanza.

Williams led the charge with 16 points followed by nine from Simpson, five each from Vargas and Benson, four from Harlan, three from Mia Gomez, and two points each from Ferguson and Kayleigh Torrez.

San Saba received 16 points from Chassidy Gonzales, eight from Brooklyn Allison, seven from Sydni Jones, and five points from Kloey Smith.

On Friday, Early (5-1) faces Clyde 12:30 p.m., then meets Cisco at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
