EARLY – The success the Early Lady Horns volleyball team has enjoyed thus far in 2025 carried over into the District 8-3A opener Tuesday night, which culminated in a 25-9, 25-13, 25-15 victory over the Millsap Lady Bulldogs.
“It’s always good to come out with a win to start district,” said Lady Horns head coach Missy Vaughn, whose team finished tied for fourth place in the 8-3A standings and missed out on a postseason berth when it dropped a play-in match against Comanche. “We’ve this one behind us now, but we have to attack the next one on Friday which is Peaster.”
The Lady Horns (19-3, 1-0) were sparked by 14 kills from Jensyn Rasor, five from Aubrie DeVillier, two apiece from Grey Pruett, Kailyn Gallardo and Ellie Shea, and one by Cassidy Frerichs.
Pretty dished out 12 assists while Frerichs finished with three and Gallardo notched one.
Gallardo tallied a team-high four aces along with three each from Gabby Benson, Tiffany Phelps and Pruett, while Rasor and DeVillier tacked on two apiece.
On the defensive end, DeVillier and Gallardo each logged seven digs followed by five from Benson, four from Pruett, and one by Frerichs.
At the net, Rasor, Pruett and Frerichs each collected a block.
“We came out strong the first set and played lights out,” Vaughn said. “In the second set, we gave up a few points that we shouldn’t have. We let them score some, and we have to work on digging ourselves out of those five or six-point runs where they score. Same thing happened in the third set, we started strong but then we got in a little rut where we gave up a few points, and we have to learn to get out of those.”
Early is back in action at 4:30 p.m. Friday in its first road 8-3A match against Peaster.
