
JAYTON – The Class A Division I No. 4 May Tigers knocked off the Class A Division I No. 2 Whiteface Antelopes, who appeared in the 2024 state championship game, by a 64-46 count Saturday night in neutral site action to state the 2025 high school football campaign.
Lane Goodson passed for 153 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 72 yards and three more scores for May (1-0), while Jackson Lusk finished with 93 yards receiving and two touchdowns, 30 yards rushing and another score, and returned a Whiteface (0-1) fumble 20 yards for a touchdown.
Kaden Watkins chipped in 63 yards receiving and a touchdown, Maddix Raffel rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown, while other offensive standouts included Kobey Morris with 23 yards passing and 8 yards receiving, and Cayson Dail with 16 yards receiving.
Defensively, Goodson led the way with nine tackles including two for loss; Mikey Scheriger logged six tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery; Morris recorded six tackles with three for loss; Raffel added five tackles, one for loss and recovered a fumble; Lusk chipped in five tackles with two for loss; Watkins registered five tackles and one interception; Tyran Perry logged five tackles; Kayden Psencik and J.D. Harrell each tallied a pair of tackles; and Brody Stice finished with one tackle.
Jacob Brown, a 2018 May graduate, earned his first victory as a head coach with the Tigers triumph.
Next week, May travels to Class A Division II No. 3 Richland Springs (0-1), which is coming off a 52-6 loss to Class A Division I No. 1 Gordon (1-0), the reigning state champion.
