Israel Cintron-Rivera

District Attorney Micheal Murray reported that on Wednesday, May 21, Israel Cintron-Rivera was sentenced by District Court Judge Mike Smith to life in prison for Burglary of a Habitation after a contested hearing. Cintron-Rivera will be required to serve 30 years before he can become eligible for parole based on the laws governing parole eligibility in Texas.

First Assistant District Attorney Elisha Bird put on evidence that Cintron-Rivera, who had been given probation in 2023 for the Burglary case, violated his probation both in and out of jail. Cintron-Rivera committed a new burglary offense while on probation then committed several more assaults while being housed in the Brown County Jail.

Cintron-Rivera claimed that his mental health issues justified his actions even though he failed to attend the counseling that he had been ordered to complete as a condition of probation. Additionally, Bird presented evidence from law enforcement officers that Cintron-Rivera planned out and premeditated his attacks on jailers and officers. Three non-law enforcement victims also testified about the danger Cintron-Rivera posed.

Cintron-Rivera, if released from incarceration by the parole board, will be required to register for life as a sex offender under the Texas Sex Offender Registration Program.
