Early softball remains undefeated with two more wins to open Llano tournament

LLANO – The Early Lady Horns softball team improved to 8-0 on the season Thursday with victories over Ingram Tom Moore and Goldthwaite at the Llano tournament.

The Lady Horns won their opener opener against Ingram Tom Moore, 10-7, Thursday morning.

Tied at 3 after one inning, the Lady Horns fell behind 7-3 after two frames, but scored seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to snatch the victory.

Early finished with 10 hits led by two each from Marissa Reedy – both triples – and Aleeya McCombs – both doubles – and Kyleigh Caperton, along with one each from Jordan Simmons, Jamie Lyon, Andie Simpson and Sydney Greaves. McCombs and Simmons recorded two RBIs apiece trailed by one each from Caperton, Reedy and Lyon.

In the circle, Caperton and Greaves allowed a combined three earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and seven walks. The Early defense also committed four errors.

Thursday afternoon featured a 10-1 victory over Goldthwaite for the Lady Horns.

Early led 7-0 after one inning, 9-1 through two frames and added its final run in the third.

The Lady Horns tallied eight hits – two each from Caperton and Reedy, who both drove in a run; a hit and two RBIs from Greaves; one hit and one RBI apiece from Simpson and McCombs; and one hit from Simmons.

In the circle, Leslee Beard pitched all six innings and gave up one run on four hits with one strikeout and one walk. Early’s defense committed just one error.

The Lady Horns are back in action against Trinity Christian at 11:10 a.m. Friday, Glen Rose at 2:30 p.m. Friday, and Austin LASA at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
