The Texas Department of Public Safety released the following information regarding a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident that took place at 9:01 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 on U.S. Highway 84, approximately 1.75 miles northwest of Santa Anna.

According to the DPS, an 83-year-old Santa Anna woman was walking in the center of the U.S. 84 near County Road 108. Local law enforcement was responding to the area due to receiving reports from motorists about a pedestrian in the roadway who was nearly being struck due to darkness. A 1995 Chevrolet, K1500 pickup truck was traveling north on U.S. 84 in the area and failed to see the pedestrian standing in the roadway. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m. by Justice of the Peace, Vickie Kemp, in the northbound lane of U.S. 84.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were not injured.
