Doris Neal (Stokes) Johnson

Doris Neal Johnson, 89, of Brownwood, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022. A graveside service will be held at Eastlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 15, 2022 under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

Doris was born August 2, 1933 in Eastland County to A.N. and Eria (Reese) Stokes. Doris attended High School in Carbon, Texas and went to Howard Payne University. She married Martin Johnson Jr. and they began a life together that blessed them with two children. Doris enjoyed writing short stories and had a few published in the New York Times and Readers Digest among other outlets. She loved working in the yard and getting dirt under her nails. Doris was fiercely independent, a staunch conservative and a devout Christian. Her wit, humor and love will be missed immensely.

Doris is survived by her son, Pete Morgan and wife, Mary Frances of Brownwood; daughter, Deanna Pipkin of Cisco; granddaughter, Darla and husband, Major Pete Anderson of Hawaii; grandson, Morgan Pipkin of Cisco; great grandson, Pate Anderson of Hawaii; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Johnson Jr.; her parents, A.N. and Eria Stokes; brothers, Orus Stokes and Odus Stokes.
