Brown County will be represented by six student-athletes competing in seven events at the UIL Track and State Field State Championships at the University of Texas Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin May 12-14.

Leading the way is May with three state qualifiers, including regional champions Kaden Halk and Amanda Harrell, along with regional runner-up Avery Williford.

Halk outdistanced the competition in the boys 100 meters at the Region II-A meet in San Angelo Saturday in a time of 11.23, while Harrell hurled the discus 110 feet to win her event. Halk’s nearest competitor was Jordan Daniel of Rotan (11.41), while Harrell bested Sterling City’s Payton Conner (108-1).

Williford placed second in the Region II-A boys discus with an effort of 135-4, which trailed only Brody White of Benjamin (140-5).

The May athletes will compete Saturday, May 14 in Austin.

Bangs Lady Dragon Maggie Morales is headed to state in a pair of events as she placed second in both the Region I-3A girls long jump and triple jump in Abilene over the weekend.

With a distance of 17-6.75, Morales was the runner-up in the long jump behind only Kylie Tullous of Jacksboro (17-7.5). Meanwhile, in the triple jump, Morales’ best effort of 36-3.75 left her behind only Gracie Stephens of Brock (36-8).

Morales will compete Thursday, May 12 at the state meet.

Moving on to state from the Region III-A meet in Whitney are Brookesmith’s Elida Uvalle and Zephyr’s Jayden Millican.

Uvalle came in second in the girls shot put with a best effort of 34-6, trailing only Eadee Turman of Bluff Dale (35-1.75).

Millican, meanwhile, was the runner-up in the boys jump with a best leap of 20-1.5, which left him behind only Mason Rodriguez of Dodd City (21-0).

Both Uvalle and Millican will compete Saturday, May 14 in Austin.
