Lady Lions win Jim Ned cross country meet, Lions place fifth

TUSCOLA – The Brownwood Lady Lions captured the Division II girls team championship at Jim Ned’s Warpath Invitational cross country meet on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Brownwood Lions placed fifth in the final team standings on the boys side.

The Lady Lions garnered 66 points to outdistance runner-up Roby (99) and third-place Roscoe (107). Also competing were Wall (137), Ballinger (151), Jim Ned (151), Snyder (182), Clyde (207), Bangs (224), Brady (241), Cross Plains (243), Early (270), Merkel (290) and Winters (380).

The Lions, with 117 points, finished behind Jim Ned (43), Snyder (79), Wall (91) and Eula (96), and ahead of Ballinger (187), Brady (220), Early (230), Roscoe (234), Clyde (241), Roby (245) and San Angelo TLCA (304).

Leading the way for the Lady Lions was Sydney Windham, who came in seventh in a time of 12:53.72, trailed by Emma Stegemoller (11th, 13:09.22), Kate Tindol (13th, 13:10.37), Braycee Lee (17th, 13:29.91), Talia Craff (18th, 13:33.66), Kylea Karnes (33rd, 14:12.65), Miranda Northcutt (42nd, 14.33.31), Alex Bernal (49th, 14:44.31), Ava Brownlee (60th, 15:11.06), Camila Hernandez (100th, 16:37.25), Marisa Campos (105th, 16:51.94), and Persyus Mares (120th, 18:49.06).

For the Lions, Caleb Nelson led the charge with a fourth-place time of 17:48.91 followed by Evan Fraze (15th, 19:52.15), Vincent Floyd (23rd, 20:41.69), Aden Solis (33rd, 21:22.72), Hunter Glass (50th, 22:42.31), Carter Fleet (64th, 23:21.43), Braylon Harvey (66th, 23:22.9), James Nolan (73th, 24:16.84).

The eighth-place Early boys team was spearheaded by 18th-place Aaron Bass’ time of 20:13.94 along with Will Prochaska (38th, 21:34), Calvin Clubb (55th, 22:51.81), Jordan Campos (63rd, 23:20.5), and Keegan Waldorf (101st, 31:36.62).

The ninth-place Bangs girls were sparked by Hannah Person’s ninth-place time of 13:04.25, trailed by Rylie Guerrero (26th, 13:57.15), Sydney Hager (56th, 15:47.78), Lindsay Campos (70th, 15:33.46), and Anna Weedon (90th, 16:22.52).

The 12th-place Early girls were led by 12th-place Madison Torrez (13:10.06) along with Trinity Torrez (66th, 15:21.91), Preslee Richmond (67th, 15:26.94), Steely Fielder (72nd, 15:38.46), Memorie Castro (91st, 16:23.18), Mariella Tovar (113th, 17:35.65), Jenna Wigham (114th, 17:38.62), Gyselle Cruz (117th, 17:57.31), Mariyah Tovar (121st, 19:04.44), Shay Zoltak (126th, 21:09.53).

Brownwood, Early and Bangs will all be back in action Sept. 1 at the Brownwood Invitational.
