ColemanTODAY.com recently reported that 18-year-old Jace Scott pled guilty Wednesday afternoon in the 42nd District Court of Coleman County to the murder of Connor Murphy. District Judge Arimy Beasley accepted the plea and subsequently sentenced Scott to 36 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division.
The sentence was part of plea agreement in which Scott waived his right to appeal. The case was set for jury trial Monday, October 5th. However, that trial has been cancelled.
The case stemmed from an incident February 25, 2025 when Scott, 17 at the time, shot and killed Connor Murphy at 402 E. 10th Street in Coleman. A co-defendant, Jennifer Murphy, wife of the victim, was also indicted pursuant to the incident.
Murphy was taken into custody on June 20, 2025, following an April 23, 2025 indictment by a Coleman County grand jury. She is accused of intentionally assisting or encouraging the act that resulted in the death of 26-year-old Connor Murphy.
Jennifer Murphy’s trial is set for early next year. The case was prosecuted by Coleman County District Attorney Heath Hemphill and Assistant District Attorney Chris Brown.
