The Texas Education Agency recently released this year’s “A-F Accountability Ratings” for public schools, and most of the schools in Central Texas received grades and ratings that are higher than last year.

The A-F Accountability System was established in 2017 by the 85th Texas Legislature.  According to the TEA website, the goal of the system is “to provide clear and consistent information on how schools are performing in three key areas:  Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps.”  The system covers 1,202 School Districts, and 9,105 individual school campuses.  This year 24% of the Districts and campuses received improved grades and ratings.  Only 585 campuses (6%) improved to an A rating this year, from a lower rating last year.  Two of those were Brownwood East Elementary and Bangs Middle School.

Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath commented:  “This year’s A-F ratings illustrate the progress Texas public schools are making and acknowledge  the hard work of our educators while illuminating areas of needed improvement to ensure that all students have access to a high-quality education.  Through our commitment to transparency and accessibility, parents and the public can explore the ratings and associated resources to clearly understand the performance of their schools.”
