35th District Attorney Micheal Murray reported that on Wednesday, July 22, in the 35th Judicial District Court of Brown County, Jacky Wayne Carter AKA Mike Wayne Rayes of Brownwood, was sentenced to a term of 35 years in prison for Delivery of Controlled Substance in a Drug Free Zone. The finding and sentencing took place after a trial by jury.

Carter was charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance in a Drug Free Zone. It was alleged that Carter sold Methamphetamine near a Headstart school for infants and toddlers in Brownwood.

Assistant District Attorney Ernesto Gamez presented evidence that Clark delivered nearly seven grams of Methamphetamine in the parking lot of a convenience store just a few blocks away from the Headstart school. The purchase was conducted by law enforcement as part of an operation to take drugs off the street before they get into the hands of the families that live in the area. Gamez also presented evidence of Carter’s previous felony convictions, including past drug offenses.

During the first portion of the trial, Gamez presented the evidence of the Methamphetamine to a Brown County Jury. The jury returned a verdict of “Guilty” after three days of trial. During the second portion of the trial, evidence was presented of Carter’s criminal background, behavior, and involvement in more recent Methamphetamine sales. After the guilty verdict and seeing all evidence presented, the judge sentenced Carter to 35 years in prison.
