Growing up in a family that placed a huge emphasis on education, Lindsay Redden has chosen the path of an educator.
Redden, who is a 12-year education veteran, has worked at Early Primary School since 2019, where she is a dyslexia interventionist.
“My mom was a teacher, so I was always just at the school around books,” Redden said. “That kind inspired me to just continue that as an adult.
“I love helping the younger kids learn to read. I’ve taught math and science and some other things with some older kids, but my passion is definitely those younger ones when they’re first starting out.”
Redden, an Athens native, graduated from Athens High School in 2000. She started college at Texas A&M University — but not with the idea of being a teacher. She graduated with a degree in environmental science.
“After I graduated, I worked a couple of years, and then I decided I should have just done education to begin with,” Redden said. “I went back to A&M Commerce at that time because I had gotten married. So I got my alternative certification at A&M Commerce and also my master’s.”
Redden began her teaching career in the Forney ISD, then taught in Brownwood for a year.
“We moved here in 2018, and I worked for one year in Brownwood,” Redden said. “My kids were in Early, and then I moved over to Early our second year here.”
Redden said she initially began at Early Primary School working in the ESL program.
“Then they needed someone to help with dyslexia classes also, and that turned into what I am now,” Redden said.
Redden said her favorite aspect of being an educator is seeing her students start to gain confidence in their abilities and become proud of themselves.
“I can see them improving, but when they know it, they just kind of take off — that’s my favorite part,” Redden said.
Redden and her husband, Ty, are the parents of three sons.
