Major League Baseball is holding its amateur draft this weekend.  In the first round, with the 16th overall pick, the Texas Rangers selected Gio Rojas, a left-handed high school pitcher from Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.  Rojas is 19-years old, 6′ 4″ tall, and weighs 195-lbs.  He throws a fastball up to 98-mph, along with a slider and a change-up pitch.  Rojas is currently committed to play college baseball at the University of Miami.  The approximate value of the 16th overall pick is $5.05 million.

With the very next pick, 17th overall, the Houston Astros selected Logan Hughes, an outfielder from Texas Tech.  Hughes is 21-years old, throws and bats left-handed.  Over the past two years at Texas Tech, Hughes has hit 37 home runs and hit for a batting average of .350.  The approximate value of the 17th overall pick is $4.87 million.

The Astros also had another pick in the first round, the 28th pick overall.  They selected Jack Radel, a right-handed pitcher from the University of Notre Dame.  Radel is 6′ 5″ tall and 250-lb.  He throws a fastball at 95-98 mph, and also throws a curveball, slider, and change-up.  The approximate value of the 28th overall pick is $3.36 million.
