This is an important week for Kurt Newton and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I say it’s important because it is one of the highlights of the FCA year. These are chosen athletes from football, basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball throughout the area.
The games are divided between Abilene and Brownwood. Brownwood, for the last few years, has hosted the FCA All Star baseball and softball games. This year they are at the regular sites at the Brownwood high school athletic complex. If you haven’t seen it, the softball park and baseball park are next to each other. The games start at 6:30 and they are a good show. I want to appeal to you to attend them because the only way it looks good to the FCA hierarchy is for the attendance to be good.
Kurt does a great job of getting sponsors. He has people who will host the kids and various churches to provide their meal, but the main thing is that people need to go to the games. They will be played Thursday night and it’s important that you go to support the all stars who have the honor of playing.
In addition to the games, I get to do something I’ve had the privilege of doing for many years. In years past before the All Star games take place, they have had a presentation. This year they will have it during the luncheon on Thursday at noon at the fellowship hall of First Methodist Church in Brownwood. All of the all star athletes will be there and it will be a thrill for me to present the Christ In The Media award. The recipient this year will be Mike Lee from Goldthwaite. He is a very deserving young man, well, he’s not a young man anymore, but compared to me he is a very young man.
The main thing is to attend the game and support these young athletes. It is important that you attend the game, even if it’s only one inning, but go and be a part of this event. It’s important to the kids. It’s important to the FCA and Kurt Newton. Show your support!
Until next time, so long everybody.
