
The Texas Department of Public Safety reported fatality accidents that took place over the Memorial Day weekend in Brown and Comanche counties.
At 9:01 p.m. Saturday, May 23 on Farm to Market Road 585, eight miles north of Grosvenor, 62-year-old Laquetta Ann Day of Brownwood perished in a one-vehicle accident.
According to the DPS report, a 2024, Taizhou Nebula Power Company (Golf Cart Style – Off-Highway Vehicle ) was traveling northbound on FM 585. The driver was operating the vehicle on the wrong side of the road in a no-passing zone. She abruptly steered to the right, causing the vehicle to roll over in the northbound lane. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. A passerby discovered the golf cart on its driver’s side in the northbound lane, with the driver pinned underneath. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash.
At noon Sunday, May 24 on State Highway 16, ten miles north of Comanche, 68-year-old Robert Allen Burks of Comanche passed away following a one-vehicle accident.
According to the DPS report, the driver of a 2004 Toyota Tundra experienced a medical emergency while traveling north on SH 16. The vehicle veered to the right and entered the barrow ditch, then collided with a fence and rolled onto its left side and roof.
